Sodajerker visit Leeds Beckett

The creators of song writing podcast Sodajerker visited Leeds Beckett yesterday to give a guest talk.

Simon Barber and Brian O’Connor discussed their success, song writing, and how to interview celebrities.

Since starting the podcast in 2011, the duo have interviewed the likes of Nile Rogers, Johnny Marr, Paul Simon, Paloma Faith, Noel Gallagher and Paul McCartney. The podcast has been streamed millions of time in over 50 countries.

Despite their success, the pair have had no journalistic training and rely on a conversational tone when interviewing celebrities.

“Our lack of training as journalists or interviewers has put us at an advantage. We can only be ourselves and try to have a conversation with people. We don’t go in with any sort of agenda or angle. We don’t try to be provocative or confrontational” said O’Connor.

“If there’s any sort of naturalness it probably comes from counter-intuitively from being over pre-pared” added Barber.

They will be interviewing David Crosby in the next episode.
