#BeingDisabledDoesDefineMe has allowed disabled people to share how their disability has shaped them in a positive way.

The Co-founder of the hashtag Karli Drew started it to share how being disabled is apart of her identify and it’s not always a bad thing.

I’ve spent my entire life modifying every day items, electronics, meals, etc to make them accessible for me.

Disabled writer A.H. shares the hashtag Being Disabled Does Define Me to take back control of the word ‘disabled.’

It’s purpose is to push back from the ‘differently-abled’ narrative and allow people to share how their disability has shaped in a positive way.

Bethany Dawson also used the hashtag to explain to Twitter followers her disability defines her and that is Ok.

#BeingDisabledDoesDefineMe because every part of my life is impacted by my poor health. And that’s okay! Disabled is not a dirty word. Being able to acknowledge how much my disabilities impact my life means I can get the support I need. It makes me stronger and cooler tbh
