Cue

« Back to Glossary Index

The introduction to the story read out by the presenter.

When writing a package, voice piece or two-way, write the cue at the same time as your script to make sure you don’t repeat yourself.

A cue is generally three lines – the top line, the second line, and the in-line introducing the reporter or clip.

It also needs to have technical details about the audio that follows, e.g.:

STORY BLOGGS CLIP 1

HEY! This is the top line of the story that gets the listener’s attention.

This line goes into a bit more detail about the story.

Joe Bloggs says it’s a really good idea:

[CLIP]

STORY BLOGGS CLIP 1
DUR: 16″
IN WORDS: I think
OUT WORDS: really helpful
